- A National Link: While located in the Kurunegala district, the shrine is a “National Shrine,” meaning it belongs to all Sri Lankan Catholics. It serves as a bridge between the various dioceses (Colombo, Jaffna, Kandy, etc.), reflecting St. Joseph Vaz’s own travels across the entire island.
- Inter-religious Harmony: Following the example of St. Joseph Vaz—who was highly respected by the Buddhist Kings of Kandy—the shrine maintains a spirit of peace and welcome for people of all faiths who come to seek the Saint’s blessings.
