Novena to Saint Joseph Vaz

This prayer is traditionally recited over nine consecutive days or during the Friday Novena services at the Shrine.

Opening Prayer

O God, who through the patience and apostolic zeal of Saint Joseph Vaz, didst renew the light of the Gospel in Sri Lanka; grant that through his intercession, we may be preserved in the faith and grow in the spirit of love and service.

Petition for Grace

(State your personal intention here…)Saint Joseph Vaz, you who walked our soil in humility and faced persecution with courage, look upon my current trial. You who healed the sick and brought rain to the parched earth, intercede for me that I may receive the grace I so desperately need, if it be for the glory of God and the good of my soul.

The Prayer of the Faithful

• For the Sick: May the touch of Christ, which you shared with the plague victims of Kandy, bring healing to our loved ones.
• For the Youth: Inspire our children to be brave witnesses of the Gospel in their schools and workplaces.
• For the Nation: Guide Sri Lanka toward a path of lasting peace, unity, and prosperity.
